Miss Anna Schoenbeck was born in Germany, June 13, 1821. Died at her late home June 19, 1903, aged 82 years and 6 days. In 1837, at the age of 16, she made the eventful journey across the Atlantic to America, it taking 11 weeks to complete the trip. Three years later she was united in marriage with Jacob B. Miller in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Eight children blessed this union, one of whom passed away in childhood. The children are as follows: Peter J. of near Amish, Rev. Christian J. of Kalona, Jacob A of Wellman, Moses J. of Maxwell, Joel J. of Pulaski, Mrs. Lydia Brenneman of Kalona, and Dan J. of Iowa County. The deceased with her husband came to Iowa in 1857, and settled on a farm northeast of Kalona. In 1895 the husband and father was called to the great beyond. She still continued to reside on the old home place until her death came and she joined her loved ones in the world of light. Besides the loss to her immediate family and relatives, the community at large mourns the removal of an old pioneer that has ever stood a staunch defender of the right, and her church, a faithful member. Funeral services were conducted at the residence by Revs. Peter Kinsinger and Jacob Swartzendruber. Burial in the Moses P. Miller Cemetery, Kalona, Iowa.
