Fanny Fanning was born about June 1800, in Connecticut, most probably in Preston, CT. She married Leonard Prentice on 22 Dec 1825, in Worthington, MA. According to local church records, she and Leonard had six children baptized between 1827 and 1841: Abigail Frances Leonard (bpt. May 1827); Ira Leonard (b. Mar 1828); Esther Leonard (bpt.Jul 1832); Lorenzo (bpt. 1835); Lydia Jane (bpt. Aug 1840); and Amy Loiza (bpt. Aug 1841, only lived 8 months). Fanny and Leonard farmed in Worthington at least until Leonard's death from consumption, in December, 1842. By 1850, Fanny had moved to Lyman Bell's farm in nearby Becket, MA, with her two youngest children, Lorenzo and Lydia. Also living there were her oldest daughter Abigail F., with her husband Cyrus Loveland, and their 1 year old dau, Abigail M. Loveland. By 1860, with her children grown, Fanny moved in with her son Ira, and his wife Hannah McSweeney, who had relocated to Becket in the mid 1850s. In 1861, Fanny married the widower Amos Abbot (also his 2nd). Amos had a farm in the nearby village of Washington, 3 miles away. She was 61, he was 67. A few years later, on 26 Apr 1865, Fanny succumbed to "Lung Fever," and died at age 64 yrs, 10 mos. She is buried next to her second husband Amos, marked by a standing stone that says "Fanny wife of Amos Abbot." There is also a small stone for her in her son Ira Prentice's family plot in North Becket Cemetery, that says simply "Mother."
