Written by a granddaughter, Carolyn Bryant White: "Grandpa Amason was always doing good for people in need or where there was illness.

"I remember the winter of 1929, many people had the influenza. My Grandpa would go one direction one day and another direction the next day to deliver firewood to homes of relatives and neighbors who were sick and needed to stay warm.

"My Grandpa and Grandma Amason lived very near to Shady Grove Baptist Church and Shady Grove School in Smith Co., MS. In the fall of 1930, my family returned from Louisiana, and I started school again at Shady Grove. Winter came. Christmas came. At that time, Shady Grove Baptist Church was having church services on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, December 27, 1930, my Grandpa took his bath, dressed for church and walked down to the church. Church services began, the pastor delivered the message and gave the invitation. Then the pastor asked my Grandpa to close the service with prayer. Grandpa stood to pray, and then he began to fall. The last words that he said were, 'Our Father.' The people at the church got him to his home and on his bed. He breathed once or twice after they got him on the bed. Then Grandpa was gone to be with the Lord.

"After Grandpa's death, it was never the same again. I missed him so much. I was thirteen years of age and 'Grandpa, I loved you.'"
