Wood Harlan BRUDER, born in Houston on 5 February 1901, lived in the Heights and attended school there. He was a member of the Heights High School football team, which took part in the first state championship ever played in the state of Texas (the game ended in a 0-0 tie). He was also a member of the Philadelphia Yellow Jackets professional football team, which won the world championship in 1926. He later graduated from medical school and began practice in Houston at Heights Hospital. He died 13 November 1952.
