Pearl E. Demarett, 86, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford.

Pearl was born in Berwick on October 13, 1923 to Frank and Grace (Tagles) Evans and attended local schools, graduating from Berwick High School in 1941. She married Raymond Demarett in 1941 and the couple moved to Sanford where they raised two children.

Pearl worked at W.T. Grant's for over 25 years and also worked as a manager at Hooz's Apparel for nearly 20 years. She also worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart for several years after her retirement.

Flower gardening and baking were two of Pearl's favorite activities. She was constantly baking muffins, which she lovingly gave to friends and family. She was a very outgoing woman who was loved by all who knew her. She had a very nurturing personality and "adopted" many grandchildren throughout her life who would affectionately refer to her as Grammy Pearl. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband Raymond Demarett. Surviving are two children, Raymond E. Demarett and his wife Charlene of Alfred and Brenda Truesdell and her husband Howard of Topsham; four grandchildren, John S. Washington II, Jeromy Washington and his wife Christine, Heather Smith and her husband Nathan and Derek Welch; four great-grandchildren, John S. Washington III, Garrett Smith, Mackenzie Smith and Julia Welch; a sister, Irmalee Sheldon and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 21st at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick.
