Raymond Demarett, 79, of Shaw Road died May 19, 2000, at H.D. Goodall Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Berwick, a son of William and Albia Pelletier Demarett, and attended Cranberry Meadow School.

He moved to Sanford in 1941.

Mr. Demarett served in the Navy during World War II as a Seabee with the 9th Battalion.

Following the war, he worked at the former York Utilities as a bus driver and later for the former Evans International Garage as a mechanic. He later worked for Westcott Ford Sales of Springvale and the Walter Reeks Buick dealership.

For 23 years he worked at Central TV and Furniture as an appliance repairman and later became manager of that department. He retired in 1986 due to ill health.

Following his retirement he still did some appliance repairs out of his home. He also drove 100 miles a day delivering the Journal Tribune newspaper to rural customers.

He enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Pearl Evans Demarett of Sanford; a son Raymond E. of Alfred; a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Brenda) Truesdell of Westbrook; two sisters, Elizabeth Brown and Maizie Hayes, both of Farmington, N.H.; three grandchildren and a great- grandson.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at LaFrance- Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter St. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Theodore Letendre officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick.
