Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - June 3, 1995. Obituary: George Melvin Glade, 74, passed away at home on June 1, 1995, following a brief illness. Melvin was born on October 15, 1920, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Richard and Zina Ruth Larkin Glade. He married Merna Kunz, June 15, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. He served an LDS mission to Hawaii. He also served in the armed forces during World War II in the 83rd Infantry Division as a B.A.R. man. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Professionally he worked for many years as the controller of Western Steel Company, and also as general accounting manager for Abbott Laboratories. He was an early member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society. Melvin was a faithful member of the LDS Church. He held many positions in the church and served diligently in all of them. He served as bishop of the Canyon Rim 2nd Ward, and as a temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple. He has served in the presidency of LDS Priesthood quorums wherever he has lived.

He is survived by his wife, Merna; three children, Linda (Thomas Loertscher), Idaho Falls; Louise (Raymond Hilton), West Jordan; Bruce Melvin (Lorraine) Glade, Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren, three granddaughters-in-law, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Ruth (Willard) Stephensen. Funeral services will be held in the Canyon Rim 2nd Ward Chapel, 3100 East 3000 South, 12 noon, Tuesday, June 6, 1995. Friends may call at the Canyon Rim 2nd Ward on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
