The Monona Leader, Monona, Clayton County, Iowa, Thursday, June 10, 1915, Page 1, Column 4

The death of Henry Snell records the passing from the community of one of its most familiar figures. Not many have lived here longer. Since five years of age he had lived in the neighborhood, and most of the time upon the farm which his father purchased sixty two years ago.
The funeral held at the Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon was attended by many coming from distances showing the wide acquaintance of the deceased.
Mr. Snell was born in the state of Indiana, at Pendelton on the 27th of January 1848, and was named George Henry after his grandfather. By the time the boy was five years of age the Snells became a part of that slow flowing tide of immigrants seeking new lands and homes in the states west of the Mississippi. Their new home was established o the land just west of Monona which has belonged to the family ever since and where he died. During the last ten years he was a frequent sufferer from inflammatory Rheumatism, which increased during the last three and four years. The immediate cause of death was an eating ulcer affecting the throat. The end came on the evening of June 3, 1915, at the age of 67 years, 4 mo. and 7 days.
He was married to Miss Arbelle Curry, the day after Christmas in 1870, at Waukon. They were parents of nine children, Mrs. Jennie Feay of Postville; Mrs. Maude Aden of Gresham, Neb.; Will of Minneapolis; Laurence at Thief River Falls, Minn; Emma living at Mason City; Cad, Ed, and Ethel at home and David of Monona, all of whom except Laurence were present at the time of his death. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Samuel Taylor of Waukon, who also was with him and helped care for him during his last illness.
