Former Uniondale resident, Mary Merle Wilkin, 86, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Riverterrace Estates.
Born in Madisonville, Tenn., to Alfred and Grace M. (Humphreys) Cardin on September 8, 1920, Mrs. Wilkin married Lloyd E. Wilkin in Madisonville on August 1, 1938; he preceded her in death on October 31, 1965.
A 1938 graduate of Rockford High School, she worked at Keeblers for eight years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include four children, Rosalyn Hix of Greenville, S.C.; Sandra (Ronald) Dvorak of Uniondale; Cheryl (Ron) Sliger of Uniondale and Larry Wilkin of Whitesburg, Tenn.; two brothers, Norman Cardin of Camp Verde, Ariz. and Marvin Cardin of Churubusco; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wilkin was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd and Barney Cardin, and two sisters, Marge Henry and Corrinne Cardin.
Private family funeral services will be held at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Troy Drayer officiating. Burial will be at Emmanuel Cemetery in Rockford.
Preferred memorials are to the Uniondale Fire Department.
