WENONA: Mark B. Peterson, 89, a resident of Monte Cassino Nursing Home at Toluca, the past four years, died at 8 p.m. Saturday, at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator, IL.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Wenona. The Rev. Roger Helgren will officiate.

Burial will be in the new First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Varna, IL.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Thierry Funeral Home, Wenona, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Born December 29, 1896, near Varna, he was the son of John and Jennie (Holmstrom) Peterson.

Surviving are two sisters, Beulah Modro and Della Lundgren, both of Varna; one brother, Oliver Peterson, of Oglesby; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and three sisters.

Peterson served as chief of the Wenona Police Department for many years. He was also employed by Illinois Highway Garage as supervisor prior to his retirement. Peterson was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Roger Helgren officiated at the services and also conducted graveside rites at the new First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Varna.

Blance Lindgren was organist.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons James Peterson, Robert Peterson, Eric Peterson, Timothy Peterson, Wayne Melvin and Michael Melvin.

Thierry Funeral HOme, Wenona, was in charge of arrangements.
