Andrew Anderson was born in Norway in November 1827. He immigrated to the United States in 1857 and enlisted as a private in the Regular Army of the United States for 5 years and was mustered into Company B, 9th U.S. Infantry. He appears as a member of the garrison at Fort Walla Walla, Washington, in the 1860 U.S. Census. After being discharged, Andrew enlisted during the Civil War as a private at Sacramento, California, April 21, 1864, and was mustered into Company K, 6th California Infantry. Private Anderson was mustered out at Benicia Barracks, California, October 25, 1865. After leaving military service he eventually returned to Walla Walla, where he filed for a Civil War veterans pension July 28, 1890, receiving pension application No. 890,019 and certificate No. 648,843 (Pension File, 1900, 1910 US Census). Andrew Anderson died at Walla Walla the afternoon of February 23, 1913, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
