"James landed from the frontier early from Owls Head. Christmas Day 1803. He was a joiner by trade. In 1941,the old homestead was still standing and still occupied by St. Clairs.James brother bought 90 acres about 20 miles east of him. Now known as the Old St. Clair Farm. east was Ragged Mt--southeast Pleasant Mt---south--Meadow Mt--west--Crawford Pond. Wild beasts were numerous and Sally often chased bears out of the corn patch. Buried in Owl's Head in the little cemetary at the entrance to Dudley St. Clairs farm. He was a Baptist. Built houses in Thomaston, Rockland, South Thomaston. When this letter was written,
1865, Sally was still alive and living in South Thomaston. A person from S THomaston, Malcom Jackson, wrote, Sally and James are buried in the Holiday Beach Cemetary , Owl's Head Maine. tombstones show James' death as June 9, 1858--81 years 1 month Sarah(Sally) January 5, 1867--88 years 3 months.
Courier Gazette gives Sarah Feb 29,1868, 90. Henry Wiggin gave Jan. 5, 1868.
LDS records. He and his wife were devoted Christians, members of the Baptist Church at East Union. There was a path to the church that was worn and called the "St. Clair Path".He was a dark complexioned man with black hair and eyes. Six feet one inch tall, 190 pounds."
