According to her obituary Mary married Capt. Henry B. Fontaine in Tennessee. However, according to Texas marriage records they married in Grimes County, Texas, on April 28, 1868. Soon after their marriage they moved to Memphis, Tennessee. In the 1880 census Henry was listed as a bookkeeper.
In 1888 Mary and her family lived in Austin, Texas. They moved to Dallas in 1889. Captain Fontaine died in 1896.
Mary Jane was an active worker in the United Confederate Veterans and affiliated organizations. She was camp mother of Dallas Chapter, U.C.V., the highest organization honor. She was a member of the Ervay Street Methodist Church for 35 years.
