Born and raised in Howell Co., MO, he married his first wife, Lola Cathren Bray Aug. 18, 1898, in Howell Co. They moved briefly to Jackson Co., TX, then to Lincoln Co., WA. They had 4 children: Jimmie, who died at age 1 yr. and Rachel, both born in Howell Co., MO; Maudie and Lola, both born in Wilbur, Lincoln Co., WA. Lola C. died shortly after the birth of little Lola. John had no relatives to help him in Washington, so he decided to go back to Missouri. He was afraid baby Lola would come to harm on the long journey, so he gave her up for adoption and returned to Howell Co., MO, with his older girls, Rachel and Maudie.

Second John Thomas Breedlove married Sarah Eleanor Forrest, called "Ella" by her family. They married 20 Oct. 1909 West Plains, Howell Co., MO. About 1923 John and Ella moved to Washington. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1959 in Everett, WA. John and Ella had four children: Opal, David, Zilphah and Minnie June. Zilphah and Minnie June died as young girls.

In 1929 John was reunited with his daughter Lola and her family, who lived in Wenatchee, WA.

John was a farmer and also worked at a sawmill. He was very fond of his children and mourned deeply the ones that he lost.

Second wife Ella [listed in cemetery as Sarah]and son David and his wife Roma are buried in the same lot.
