Lillian Staff, 82, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls.
She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Friberg Township of rural Fergus Falls, the daughter of Carl and Tillie (Kugler) Shol. She was baptized on Oct. 16, 1916, and attended elementary school at District No. 207 in rural Fergus Falls.
In 1938 she married Glenn Onstad. They ran an implement shop in Underwood which was owned by Mr. Onstad's father. They also ran a Gamble Store agency there. They later moved to Fergus Falls where she worked at the Gamble Store.
In 1970, she married Martin Staff, they made their home in Fergus Falls. In 1987. she had the misfortune of falling and breaking her hip. After hospitalization, she became a resident of the Pioneer Retirement Community, living in an apartment there. She was always eager to help her fellow residents and staff. Her friendly disposition touched many lives and she will be sadly missed.
Mrs. Staff was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church. She loved her family and visiting with people and helping others. She was a kind-hearted woman and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and knitting.
Preceding her in death were her parents: her two husbands, Glenn Onstad and Martin Staff; a brother, Waiter Shol and a sister, Mae Anderson.
Survivors include three brothers, Clifford (Vollie) Shol of Underwood, Floyd (Lorraine) Shol of Erhard and Russell (Vivian) Shol of Fergus Falls; three sisters, Myrtle Bauman of Erhard, Ruby (Ben) Bachmeier and Hazel (Steve) Magdich, all of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorials are preferred to Stavanger Lutheran Church.
Visitation: Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
