They lived on a farm near Rodman, IA. During her childhood and teenage years, she attended country schools and graduated from Rodman High School in 1938. Six generations of her family have lived in the Rodman area, past and present. Since Evelyn’s mother died at an early age, she took responsibility for her younger siblings until her father remarried.
On Nov. 26, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage with Ernie Simon Boyer at the Ralph Wood farm. To this union, seven children were born.
She was a seamstress, making clothing for her family, embroidering and making beaded necklaces. They farmed in Iowa until 1966 when they moved to National City, CA. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home to see their children, brothers, sisters and friends. Evelyn was especially fond of and proudly wore her Iowa T-Shirts and sweatshirts. She was quick to let others know that Iowa was where she lived before she moved to California.
She was preceded in death by: Ernie, her husband of 60 years; son, Eugene, who died in a farming accident at a young age; brothers: Harry, Bill and Donald Wood; sisters: Marilyn Fogelman, Theresa Woodbeck and Helen Koenecke; two step-siblings, Ted and Robert; two sisters-in-law, Earlene and Ruby Boyer, and son-in-law, John Leners.
