Scott Benjamin Birkinshaw, 52, died on Saturday, August 13, 1994 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Scott was born January 12, 1942 in Salt Lake City to Vance B. and Glenna Williams Birkinshaw. He grew up in Salt Lake and in San Diego, California. He was a graduate of Granite High School in Salt Lake City.

In 1964, Scott received his BA in music from the University of Utah and in 1972 he received his MLS from Brigham Young University. He was an associate professor of libraries at Weber State University from 1972 to the present. Scott also taught in the music Department.

Scott had been a member of the Utah Symphony for 10 years and currently was serving as president of the American Federation of Musicians Local 104. Scott's life revolved around his music and he was happiest when performing on his bass.

Scott married Karen Keller and they were later divorced. In 1977 he married Sue Warner.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, and his son, James, both of Ogden; his mother, Glenna Birkinshaw of Bennion, Utah; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Lonnie Birkinshaw of Bennion, Utah; and Jerold and Sue Birkinshaw of Houston, Texas; one sister and her husband, Carla and Doug Stephen of Kearns, Utah; a sister-in-law, Suzi Birkinshaw of Pinetop, Arizona; 18 nieces and nephews who were all adored by their Uncle Scott. He was preceded in death by his father, Vance Birkinshaw, and his brother, Jeffery Birkinshaw.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City. Directed by Larkin & Sons Mortuary, Ogden.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Utah Symphony.
