•Note:
Note: Ralph Laverty is said to have come from Ireland and first settled in Philidelphia. He removed to Augusta County, now Bath County, Virginia where he had surveyed a land grant of 224 acres, granted by King George II, on June 1, 1750. His property adjoined that of his brother-in-law James Stuart, who was granted 300 acres on Stuarts Creek, issued on the same day.

Ralph 1st. married Elizabeth Stuart, a sister of James. From records there were known children: William, Rebecca, and possibly a Steele Laverty. It is reported that William and Steele removed to Greenbrier County where Steele was killed by the indians. There is no data to confirm this Steele.

Ralph Laverty married secondly Jane Hicklin, the widow of Robert Graham. Jane was a daughter of Thomas Hicklin Sr. To this union there were three daughters: Agnes, Sarah and Martha.

In his will dated February 17,1790, Ralph Laverty of the Cowpasture, seems to have favored daughter Rebecca. The following four daughters were listed in his will on February 17, 1790. From records found, it appears that William and Rebecca Laverty were children of his first marriage.

In about the year 1800, Chaney, a slave of the widow Laverty, murdered her own two children by drowning.

Ralph Lafferty/Laverty's widow, Jane Laverty sold on June 21,1802, the property to the Windy Grove Church and Cemetery.
