Born June 11, 1918, in Lafayette, Ind., to Harold G. and Elsie B. Stockton Kolb, he married Maxine Brown on June 21, 1941, in Lowell, Ind. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, John of St. Louis; four daughters, Mrs. Mary (and Raymond) Best of Greensboro, N.C., Judith Smith of St. Charles, Nancy Mayo of East Peoria and Amy Craig of Joliet; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Roger of Morton.
He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1940.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 45 years, first at the Peoria proving grounds and later as manager of the vehicle components division in the research department in East Peoria. He retired in 1985 as manager of organizational & manpower planning at the administration building.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Fondulac District Library Board of Trustees from 1959 to 1999, where he served on the Alliance Library Transition Board and also was on the board of directors of the Alliance Library System.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member of the administrative council and also chairman of the finance committee for several years.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at his church. The Rev. Vaughn Hoffman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Remmert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery.
