Mrs Martha Hudson Dies at Age of 84
"Aunt Martha" Hudson, one of this community's oldest and most highly esteemed characters, passed away Thursday morning, Feb 6th, at 3 a. m. as a result of a brief illness caused from a stroke of paralysis suffered just a week previous to her death. Had she lived until next Saturday, the 8th, she would have been 84 years of age.
Until Thursday of last week, when she suffered the stroke Mrs Hudson was in good health for one of her age.
Deceased was born in this county, in the old Moorehead Campgroung Community, Feb 8, 1852 but the greater part of her life was spent in Fulton County. In 1873 she was married to Jacob Hudson, who a short time before had moved to Fulton County from Mississippi. This happy union was broken with the death of Mr Hudson three years ago.
After many years residence at Wild Cherry, Mr and Mrs Hudson moved to Calico Rock about twelve years ago. Since the death of her faithful companion, "Aunt Martha" has occupied her little home near that of her nephew, U. E. Hudson, a mile northeast of town.
Her's was a life well lived in bringing sunshine and good will to all with whom she came in contact. She never faltered in her devotion to those about her, nor in her practices of Christian living. She united with the Missionary Baptist Church early in life and remained a faithful member of that body until death.
Deceased is survived by one son and daughter, Thomas Hudson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs John McWhorter of Longview, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at the home this (Friday) afternoon in charge of Elder D. A. Hively; interment in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
