Services Held For Howard Gene Vavak
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 11, for Howard Gene Vavak, 37, who died early Sunday morning, June 9, at his home in David City. Father Richard Sladky officiated at the services at Knott Funeral Chapel with burial in Prague National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dick Eberly, Paul Buresh, Joe Trojan, Glenn Chubb, Edward Novotny and Jerry Hampl.
Relatives attending from out of town were from Scribner, Howells, Prague and Grand Isand, and Winnebago, Minn., and Carroll, Ia.
Howard Gene Vavak, son of Peter M. Vavak and the late Anna Liska Vavak, was born April 2, 1931, at Prague. He was educated in the Prague Public Schools and lived in Prague until 1949.
On May 15, 1952, he was united in marriage to Leona Koren at Grand Island. Two children were born to this union.
He was employed as a television repairman at Homan Appliance for a number of years. He also was a retired fireman, and a member of the Catholic Church.
Surviving relatives are his father, Peter M. Vavak of Schuyler; his wife, Leona; two daughters, Rox Anne and Dena; and one stepson, Kenneth Jenkins all at home; two sisters, Delores Havelka of Prague and Evelyn Calek of Omaha; and three brothers, Lester of Prague, Stanley of Grand Island and Peter of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and one uncle.
