J.D. (the initials are the name) Stewart was born in Hickory Township, Love Co. OK, the son of Mack and Mary Alice (Tucker) Stewart on April 26, 1914. He graduated high school in rural Love Co. near Eastman, and went to college primarily at Oklahoma State University, obtaining a bachelor and masters degree in education. He served in the US Army in WW2, under General Patton in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy from 1942-1945. He married Myrtle Brown on February 21, 1942 in Rockville, Maryland. When he finished his college work, he started his career in Magdalena, New Mexico, later moving to Woodward, OK from 1957-1967, thence to Idabel, OK, and finally to Newkirk, OK from 1968-1979. He worked for the Ponca City Vo-Tech school for a time. J.D. enjoyed watching O.S.U sports and coffee club, among many other things. J.D. passed away in the Ponca City Nursing Home on March 6, 2003 and was buried in the Newkirk Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, four children, and a number of grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
