Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Clayton and Elizabeth Pendleton. Likely born at family estate named "Catalpa" in Culpeper where her parents lived. Elizabeth married first Joseph Anderson. In 1740, Elizabeth married second, Nathaniel Pendleton, her cousin. As a wedding gift her father gave the couple the plantation "Redwood" in Culpeper, which is still in existence. They were parents of seven children.

Her husband Nathaniel Pendleton is buried at the family plantation "Redwood" in Culpeper and I suspect Elizabeth is buried there also. I have visited the home and the old Pendleton graves are all gone, sunken into the ground.

Elizabeth Ann Clayton, often counted as a daughter of her eldest brother Philip, was his sister ~ the daughter of Samuel & Elizabeth (Pendleton) Clayton, and named in her father's will as Elizabeth Anderson. She had married first Joseph Anderson in 1733 and was named executrix of his will in probate 7 January 1743. There were no known children of this marriage.

On October 14th, 1744, Elizabeth then married her cousin Nathaniel Pendleton (1715-1793) signer of the Protest Against the Stamp Act.

Their children were: Elizabeth Clayton Pendleton b. abt 1745 m. Benjamin Tutt; Mary Pendleton m. John Williams; William Pendleton b. 13 Jan 1748 m. Betty Fargeson, 2ndly Elizabeth Daniel; Henry Pendleton b. 7 Jan 1750 m. Ann Knight; Col. Philip Pendleton m. Agnes Patterson; Susanna Pendleton b. abt 1755 married James Wilson; Capt. Nathaniel Pendleton 1756-1821 m. Susan Bard.

Elizabeth Ann Clayton Anderson Pendleton died sometime after 21 August 1771 in Culpeper. Her husband Nathaniel, mourning over the loss of his wife, went to live at one their sons' home in Berkeley Parish where he died. His Will was in probate there 19 Sep 1793.
