Decatur Young Woman Is Found Dead In Home

Verdict Withheld In Death of Mrs. Gregg Zimmerman, 24.

A Decatur young mother, late Tuesday, was found by her husband when he returned to the residence from work.

The woman is Mrs. Mae Zimmerman, 24, wife of Gregg Zimmerman of 1722 West Madison Street. The circumstances surrounding the death of the young mother are such that the cause of death is not definitely known at this time but an autopsy was performed on the body this morning and a verdict is expected in a few days. A sample of contents of the stomach were sent to a laboratory for tests. A Berne physician was called on the case and Elmer Winteregg, of Decatur, County Coroner, investigated.

Mr. Zimmerman found his wife dead at about 7 p.m. Tuesday when he returned from Elwood. He is employed with the Schwartz Construction Company of this community. His wife was laying on the davenport and according to the attending physician she had been dead four or five hours when found by her husband. Her two small children were in the home when their father returned from work.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a native of Rome, Georgia, where she was born July 3, 1933, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Liscomb.

Surviving in addition to the husband are two children, Donna, 4, and Kenneth, one and one-half years old; the father, three brothers, Eugene, George and Robert and three sisters, Christine, Josephine and Evangeline, all of Georgia.

The body is at the Black Funeral Home in Decatur where friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren in Kirkland Township of which she was a member. The pastor, Rev. John Mishler, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
