Compiled for GFO, Portland, Oregon.
Genealogical material in Oregon donation land claims. Vol II. Oregon donation land claim applications. You had to prove U.S. Citizenship to apply [birth certificate, notarized baptism certificate, naturalization cert, etc.]

Aff: refers to affidavits that were required to be completed by, most often neighbors, citizens that would testify to the owner's good citizenship, that he was working the donated land as a farmer and that he had good standing in the community about him. One half the ODLC was owned by the wife. It was the first time that the U.S. Congress gave public lands to women.

SC: Refers to a "secured land claim". A survey had to prove it was not apart of another claim. Also, includes having to live continuously on the claim and to be making required improvements to the claim. To be working as a farmer on the claim. Women could not get a ODLC without a husband; unless, it could be proved that he had started a claim before his death.

m: Married. b: Birth of the man.

Arr: Arrival date in the Oregon Territory. A very important date when qualifying for a claim. The requirements for a claim changed as time went on.
