Last rites held for John Nordlund

Mr. John Nordlund, son of Lars Larson and Anna Anderson, was born July 27, 1872 in a sod hut on the home farm where his son, Harold, now resides south of Gibbon.

His entire life was spent in and around Gibbon. He was occupied in well repairing, threshing and farming and in the later years has been retired because of ill health.

On the 18th of May, 1901, he was united in marriage to Mary Agusta Nelson, who preceded him in death on June 9, 1938. (This was a double, wedding with Mr. and Mrs. John Lagerstedt, who are both deceased).

To this union were born three children, Clarence and Mildred, of Gibbon, and Harold, on the home farm.

Mr. Nordlund was converted and was baptized and united with the Clear Lake Baptist Church on April 5, 1942, of which he was a faithful member and attendant until ill health prevented him from attending regularly. Mr. Nordlund had been suffering from a heart ailment for several years.

He was taken to the Community Hospital at Gaylord on September 1 and passed away very suddenly Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3. At the time of his death he was 88 years, 1 month and 6 days of age.

He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter, Mildred Nordlund: two sons, Harold and Clarence, a daughter-in-law Mrs. Harold Nordlund: seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Holm, who is 94 years of age. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Alice Chelberg of Cambridge, and Mrs. Frank Mackie, of Shell Lake, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Dewey Nelson of Cambridge: one brother, Andrew, and a sister, Margaret, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Walter Larson of Minneapolis, sang a solo, "He The Pearly Gates Will Open," at the services for the family at 11 a. m. in the Funeral Chapel Tuesday morning. At the church she sang one Swedish number, "Tiden Forsvinnar So Snart Som En Dram," also "Children of The Heavenly Father."

Services for the family were at Hinterberg & Dalin Funeral Home in Gibbon at 11 a. m. September 6. Services were held at the Clear Lake Baptist Church at 2:00 p. m. Rev. R. G. Chisholm officiated. Burial was in the Clear Lake Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emly Larsen, Wallen Jacobson, Jerome Nordlund, Herbert Dahl, David Carlson and Raymond Lagerstedt. — Contributed.
