Ruth Margaret Holmgren died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the White Community Hospital in Aurora.
She was born July 7, 1919, in Winsor Township in Clearwater County, Minn., to Frank and Jensine (Baanrud) Lundmark. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1937 and married Lowell Holmgren on Sept. 22, 1940 in Chicago, Ill.
Ruth and Lowell returned to Bagley, Minn., where Ruth ran the restaurant her father had established, Lundmark Cafe. She spent a good portion of her life feeding most of Bagley. The restaurant was famous for its homemade food, which included delicious pies and barbecue ribs. In 1966, Ruth and Lowell moved to Hoyt Lakes.
Ruth had a deep concern for others and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading novels, especially a good mystery and passed her time doing crossword puzzles. She loved to listen to others tell a funny story or a good joke. Ruth had a strong religious faith and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Diane (Michael) Carr of Hoyt Lakes; sons, Gerald (Cindy Noponen) Holmgren of Hoyt Lakes, Jon (Marilyn) Holmgren of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren, Debbie Zenner, Kevin Holmgren, Lisa Martinson, Maggie Carr, Eric (Amy) Holmgren, Alex Holmgren; great-grandchildren, Paige Martinson and Presley Martinson; step-granddaughter, Anna Rumpf; sister-in-law, Fran Lundmark; best friends and neighbors Barb and Stan Ferris; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; brother, Herman "Whitey" Lundmark; sisters, Lorraine Beltz and Patty Anderson
