COMPESTINE: Retired miner

Louis A. Compestine, 56-year resident of Routt County, passed away in the Routt County Memorial Hospital in Steamboat Springs Jan. 18, 1980. He was 70 years old at the time of his death.

Born Nov. 18,1909 in Buxton, lowa, he was the son of Emett and Catherine Anessi Compestine. He married Juanita Fletcher in Steamboat Springs April 10, 1929. Until his retirement he was a coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, Melvin Compestine of Steamboat Springs and James Compestine of Craig; one daughter, Catherine Henessee of Loveland; two brothers, Modesto Compestine of Milner and Charles Compestine of San Ramone, Calif.; one sister, Ann McCool of Hayden; seven grandchildren.

Services, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Sigley, were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the Root Mortuary Ch6pel. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs cemetery.

Pallbearers included Merle Cheek, IJoyd and Bob Whitecotton, Rick and Steve Howe and John Sena.
