2nd Bomb Group (Heavy), 15th Air Force.
Tail Gunner aboard B-17F Flying Fortress
#42-29903 "High Tension II" in World War II.
Shot down by enemy fighters on mission
from Italy to bomb shipping targets at
Toulon, France. The B-17 was seen to go
down into the Mediterranean Sea off the
Côte d'Azur. Although six parachutes were
observed to exit the aircraft, no survivors
were recovered and the 10-man crew were
declared Missing In Action.
Killed In Action were:
1st Lt. Rutherfurd G Bingham, Pilot
2nd Lt. Dabney H Lea, Jr, Co-Pilot
2nd Lt. Laurence T Armstrong, Navigator
2nd Lt. Hamilton M Lamb, Bombardier
