Holgar died of multiple wounds received while serving in the 'D' Company 2nd Battalion, 3rd New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade, Tuilee Field, France. Wounded on the 15/2/1917 and transported to the 2nd Casualty Cleaning Station where he died.

Occupation before 1914.: ..."Employed in the railway service and afterwards he acted as a stock-driver for the North Auckland Farmers' Union, but at the time of enlistment was assisting on his father's farm." [Auckland Weekly News, 29 March 1917, p.46)
