Pvt. Leonard McElwee was wounded in action somewhere in Italy, on February 5, according to word received from the War Department by his mother, Mrs Sarah McElwee, Warman Street, Larksville. The telegram gave no details. It has been learned that Pvt. McElwee has been awarded the Purple Heart medal.
Pvt. Medwee was inducted into the Army on April 21, 1943 and been oversees four months.

Private First Class Leonard McElwee is a son of Mrs S. McElwee of Warman Street, Larksville. He is reported missing in action since June 2 in Italy. He is well known on the West Side and has been in the service for sometime.
