0n 11 Sept 1943, Airspeed Oxford I (#DF277) aircraft (from No. 6 Service Flying Training School) was on a 1525 BAT (Beam Approach Training) Flight when it collided with Airspeed Oxford (#MP402) aircraft which was also on a Beam Approach Training Flight. The Oxford DF277 crashed near Eastleach at about 1650 hrs, with the loss of three aircrew.

The airmen who perished in this accident were-Flying Officer Barrie BARKWORTH,
Warrant Officer Robert RENAUT and
Cadet George Edward Kenneth STONE.
