Ammon G. Hancock is eldest of between 6-8 children of Justus Hancock and Harriet Walden. He married Charlotte Hewitt July 1 1851 in Bedford VA. Their children are James Hancock, Ernest Justus Hancock, Edwin Ammon Hancock, and Lily Hancock Thornhill. Additional reported children are William, Robert, Benjamin, Ammon Jr and Emma Hancock. Ammon was a prominent citizen and properous tobacconist in Lynchburg. With his nephews, and later with sons, he conducted tobacco manufacture under the names Hancock Bros & Co, Hancock & Sons, Hancock & Kinnier, and Hill City Steam Tobacco Works.
