Everett is the son of Jefferson Sterling and Betsy Marie (Sullivan) Willis. He was known as "Willie" by family and friends. He married Nellie Mae Skinner-Groins, Sept. 1, 1942. They had one infant son, who died at birth. Nellie Mae died tragically in childbirth. Later, Everett married Emma Louise Coonce.
Everett served in the Army from May of 1943 until Dec. of 1945. During that time, he made the rank of Corporal. Everett was with the Field Artillery in Northern France and in the Rhineland in Central Europe during WWII.
