Dr. Richard Puyana, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at age 52. Richard was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, colleague, and friend, and worked with Carilion as an anesthesiologist at Roanoke Memorial and Community Hospitals for 17 years. Richard was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and had many interests during his life. He loved books, history, motorcycles, collecting art, antique toys, sports cars and, above all, his profession. Richard is survived by his wife, Yolanda Puyana; sons, Daniel and Samuel Puyana; mother and stepfather, Beatrice and Walter Gonet; brothers, Michael Puyana, of Rhode Island, Skip Gonet, of Florida, Jonathan and wife, Candace Puyana, of Arizona, and Aaron Puyana, of Washington; stepbrothers, Michael and Larry; and stepsisters, Cindy and Jill. Funeral services for Dr. Puyana will he held at noon on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue. The family will receive visitors on Friday evening, August 6, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. "Like a shipwreck we die going into ourselves, as though we were drowning inside our hearts, as though we lived falling out of the skin into the soul."
