MARIPOSA COUNTY SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION
Marvin C. APPLING of Lewis, a Mariposa county soldier, was killed in action in France on September 26, 1918, according to a telegram received by his wife, Mrs. Ruth E. APPLING, last week. Young APPLING was one of a number of men inducted into the service from this county on September 23, 1917, and after a short stay at Camp Lewis was sent to France. On the eve of his departure he was married in Mariposa to Ruth E. PROBASCO, daughter of R. S. CALHOUN of Lewis, who with other relatives survive him.
