“The Central Missourian” Mrs. Schmolzi, 93 Dies at Rolla, Former Resident of California, MO. ~ Mrs. Mary Alice Schmolzi, 93, who was born, Sept 7, 1874, in Moniteau County, died Saturday, December 30th at a nursing home in Rolla. She had been a patient at the home for the past eight years. She formerly lived with her son Willie Schmolzi in California, MO. He died last July. ~ Mrs. Schmolzi was a daughter of Dennis and Jeremiah Elizabeth (Vaughan) Hess. ~ In April 1900, she was married to John Godfred Schmolzi. The couple lived most of their married lives on a farm in Cooper County near Prairie Home. Mr. & Mrs. Schmolzi moved to California, MO., in 1951. He died in 1959. ~ Mrs. Schmolzi was a member of The Friends, a religious sect. ~ Survivors are two sons, J. A. Schmolzi, of Abilene, Kansas and Goldie H. Schmolzi, of California, MO.; three daughters, Mrs. Allie L. Pace, of Salem, MO., Mrs. Rosie Ann Sanders, of Lexington and Miss Hattie Schmolzi, Fulton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ~ Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in this city at 2 o’clock; The Rev. Marvin Kirchhoff officiated. ~ Miss Ruth Longan was the organist for the soloist, Mrs. David Jacobs. She sang, “The Old Rugged Cross: and “How Great Thou Art.” ~ Burial was in the California Evangelical Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Schmolzi, Clyde Wood, Joe Pace, Wilbur Graff, Charles Baker and Clarence Poehlman.
