Jane Anders was born in the middle of January of 1813 in Orange County, NC. Her parents were Starling Anders and possibly Virginia "Jenny" Elizabeth Williams, both natives of North Carolina. Jane had at least 3 older siblings and 8 younger siblings, including 3 half siblings. When Jane was 22, she married David Edwards on December 10th, 1835 in Ash County, North Carolina and settled into life as a farmer's wife. For the next 20 years, she and David lived in Surry County, NC. After the birth of their daughter Sarah in 1859, they and their brood of 9 (living) children traveled almost 1,000 miles west to Wallace Township, in Benton County, Arkansas. Jane lived almost another 4 decades in Benton County, AR before she widowed David on November 4th, 1898.

NOTE: There is a photo that has been widely distributed and listed as a photo of Jane Anders; the woman in the photo is incorrectly identified as Jane Anders, wife of David Edwards. This is not a photo of David's wife, Jane Anders. It only takes simple logic to surmise that since David (pictured in the lower left) was born in 1816 and Jane, his wife, was born in 1813, she would not appear to look 40 years younger than him in a photograph. This photo was taken after Jane's death between 1899-1911. The original uncropped photo is of David and his son William and William's family. Since the photo was incorrectly identified as a photo of Jane Anders, dozens of other people have copied this photograph and also listed the woman as Jane, thus spreading misinformation to many other researchers.
