"David Edwards was born in Ash county N.C. November 25, 1816, and died at the home of his son, R. Edwards, near Hiwassee, February 7, 1911, aged 94 years, 2 months and 7 days. "Uncle Davie," as he was called by many of his friends, was older than the railroads yet he never rode on a train, walking being his favorite mode of travel. He lived to see his country develop from 18 to 46 prosperous states."

David Edwards was born in Ash County, North Carolina on November 25th of 1816. He was the eldest of 12 children born to parents, Richard C. Edwards and Mary “Polly” Fender. In December of 1835, nineteen-year-old David married twenty-two-year-old Elizabeth Jane Anders in Ash County. According to the 1850 census records, David was a farmer and living with his family in Scull Camp, Surry County, North Carolina. By 1860, they had relocated to Benton County, Arkansas, where they lived out the remainder of their days. David was widowed in 1898 and died 13 years later on the 1st of February 1911 in Hiwasse, Benton County, Arkansas, at the age of 94.
