23 August 1921 - 9 December 2007
Lois Pierce Babb was born Aug. 23, 1921 in Payson, Utah. She is the oldest of six children born to Cora Hiatt and Angus Franklin Pierce. Both Cora and Angus had children from previous marriages.
Lois accompanied her family when Angus Pierce and his brother Isaac Pierce relocated to the Aberdeen area when she was younger than five years old. The Pierce home was east of Aberdeen not far from the reservoir on Beach Road. Lois and her family helped their father clear sagebrush and raise livestock and sugar beets. She spoke frequently of hoeing beets with a short handled hoe. Her siblings remember Lois as hard working and happy even through the Great Depression. Lois attended school in Aberdeen from elementary through high school, where she was the first of her family to graduate with a high school diploma.
Lois Pierce married Clarence Ross Babb on Nov. 29, 1939. Two children were born of that union, Judy Kay Babb and Larry Ross Babb. Lois loved her children and grandchildren. In 1958, Lois and Judy attended Cosmetology School in Pocatello. They worked in a beauty salon together in Aberdeen for years. Lois later had a beauty salon in her home where she continued to supplement their family income.
Lois and Ross farmed north of Aberdeen. Their children were raised in a farm lifestyle, with livestock and animals. All of Lois' grandchildren have memories of the farm where Grandma lived.
As age progressed, the farm was sold and Lois moved into the Senior Citizens Center in Aberdeen. She was comfortable there and was close to church. She was able to live independently for many years.
After breaking her pelvis in a fall, she was moved to the Nursing Home at Harms Hospital in American Falls. She passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, from age related complications at age 86. Her parents, Angus Franklin Pierce and Cornelia Hiatt, and one brother, Leo Angus Pierce, preceded Lois in death. Her half-brothers and sisters who have passed are Angus Pierce, Ralph Pierce, Florence Pierce Sperry and Beulah Pierce Haskell, Claire Taylor Nelson, Dorothy Taylor, Claude Taylor and Lynn Taylor.
One brother, Stanley Pierce, and three sisters, Hazel Becker, Romana Anderson and Ethel Claunch, survive her. Her two children, Judy Prescott of Afton, WY, and Larry Babb of Pocatello, mourn her passing. Lois has nine grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, at the LDS Church in Aberdeen. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. and the funeral service will commence at 11 a.m., with Bishop Val Wahlen conducting. Interment at the Aberdeen Cemetery will follow directly after.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis Rose Mortuary in American Falls
