Joe L. Angle Rites Today
Heart Trouble Claims Prominent Tupeloan
Joe L. Angle, Sr. prominent building contractor in Tupelo for many years, died at 1 a.m. Thursday at the Community Hospital of heart trouble following several months illness. He was 79.
Services will be held at3 p.m. today from the Angle home on Franklin Street with the Rev. W. L. Day, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, with Spain Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Angle was born in Lee County at Baldwyn, but came to Tupelo when he was one year old with his parents, the late Thomas and Miranda Davis Angle and had lived here since that time. His father was employed by the Frisco Railroad.
In addition to his contracting work, Mr. Angle also served for a number of years as city building inspector. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Mason, and the only male member of the Woodmen Circle of Tupelo.
Mr. Angle was married on Sept. 8, 1897 in Tupelo to Miss Willie Portis of Blue Mountian, who died in 1941. He leaves two sons Portis Angle of Whitehaven, Tenn. and Joe L. Angle, Jr. of Houston, Texas: a daughter Mrs. Ruby Long of Tupelo: two grandchildren, Mrs. Joseph Kelly of Whitehaven, Ten. and Michael F. Long of the U. S. Air Force who is stationed at San Antonio, Texas. One son Lee Angle died in 1934.
Pallbearers will be Ross Lawhon, R. C. Yarbrough, Tracey Franks, Ralph Perry, Dr. Glen Sturdivant, Raymond Easterling, Bob Simpson and Aaron Ballard.
