Mrs. Martha Canada, one of our oldest and most respected citizens, died, Saturday July 11, at her late home on Lexington street. For three weeks, confined to her bed and never once heard to murmur, she waited with true Christian resignation for the summons to come; and when it did come, she fell asleep, as it were, in the arms of Jesus, as an infant on the bosom of its mother. She was born in Richmond, Va., March 4th, 1810; and when quite an infant, came to Kentucky with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Trower, who located a mile and a half west of Harrodsburg. In her early womanhood she married to Mr. Henry Canada, with whom she lived happily for more than forty years. Since his death, January 11, 1876, she has made her home with her daughter. No kinder neighbor, more affectionate wife and mother, nor faithful and pious Christian ever lived in this locality. It can be said, in truth, that none knew her but to love her - none named her but in praise. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Amanza Robertson, wife of Mr. J. Creth Robertson and one grand-daughter, Mrs. Sallie McGarvey, wife of Mr. Frank McGarvey to mourn the loss of the best of mothers. She was a life long member of the M. E. church and a most faithful Christian. Dr. C. K. Marshall conducted the funeral Sunday, 4 o'clock p.m., at her late home, and the interment was in Spring Hill cemetery.
