William served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS NEW YORK BB 34 during WWII. He boarded the ship 6th of Sept. 1944 at Norfolk Virginia. He was in Divison 4 . He saw action at Okinawa and Iwo Jima. His shipmates gave him the name of Bill.

Funeral services were to be held March 3 at Winstead-White Funeral Home for William S. "Bill" Holley, 69, of Poplarville, who died March 1 at Forrest General Hospital at Hattiesburg,

Rev. Barry Corbett and Dr. Bob Rogers officiated the services, with burial in the Poplarville Cemetery. Winstead-White Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements,

Mr. Holley was a retired security guard at NASA Space Center, a member of the First Baptist Church of Poplarville, and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Stewart Holley; three sisters, Ruth Jones of Lumberton, Dicie Littleton and Caroline Holley, both of Poplarville.
