Fred Wilkins Dies After Long Illness
Fred Wilkins, 67, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday at Holly's Nursing Home after several years of failing health. Know to many friends as "Jerry," he was a familiar figure on Commercial Street many years. Because of inflammatory rheumatism, he walked bent forward with the aid of a cane. He been critically ill the past four months.
Born in Hanover June 26,1883, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. and Katherine Stutz Wilkins, he moved with the family to the Monrovia Community at the age of 15. For several years he was employed by the Blair Milling Co., but had been unable to work for the last 20 years. He was kind, thoughtful and generous and highly regarded by all who knew him. His parents and two sisters, Minnie and Edith, preceded him in death.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Caroline Peek, three brothers, George, Edwin and Robert, five nieces and four nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Sawin and Douglass chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Ralph O. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Monrovia cemetery. Pallbearers will be his cousins, Charles F. Stutz, Reidal Stutz, William Stutz, Charles M. Stutz, Edward Stutz and William Cormode.
