Katherine (Stutz) Wilkins was the daughter of Christian and Katherine (Schweitzer) Stutz, Seven children were born to them, as follows: Caroline (Demel), of Central City, Neb.; Katherine (Wilkins), Atchison, Kan.; Frederick, policeman, Atchison, Kan.; Christopher W., Center township, Atchison county; Gustave, John, Center township; and one child died in infancy.

The father of Katherine (Stutz) Wilkins was born March 25, 1825, in Germany. He left there in 1855, and settled in Jackson county, Missouri, and in 1859 came to Atchison county, where he bought eighty acres of land in Lancaster township. The land was timber and prairie country, and he employed a man to break it up with oxen. Mr. Stutz made extensive improvements on his farm, and added more land from time to time. When he died, December 28, 1898, he owned 380 acres of land. Katherine Wilkins mother was born in Germany, in February, 1829. She died in Lancaster township in December, 1888. She is buried in Maple Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Katherine Wilkins, 58 years old, died this morning at 3 o'clock at the home of her son, Robert Wilkins 734 South Sixth street. Death was due to a cancerous growth, from which Mrs. Wilkins has suffered for some time and which caused her to undergo two operations, one of them six weeks ago, and from this operation she never rallied. She leaves her husband, who is employed at the Blish Mize & Silliman Hardware Company, and several children, as follows: Fred, who is a farmer west of town; Mrs. M. Jacklin, who lives at Sixth and Utah; and Robert, George and Eddie, all of whom live in Atchison. Mrs. Wilkin's name was Stutz, and she was born and reared on a farm near Lancaster, moving to Atchison about eight years ago. She leaves four brothes, who are farmers in the Lancaster neighborhood. They are Chris, Fred, Gus and John Stutz. A sister, Mrs. A. K. Demel, who lives in Central City, Neb., has been at the bedside of Mrs. Wilkins for some weeks. Mrs. Wilkins was a sweet, lovable woman, and who was greatly devoted to her family and home. THe funeral has abeen aranged for tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock (old time) at the church in Monrovia. Interment in the Monrovia cemetery.
