Sketch of the Life of John Howarth
After a severe sickness of nine months, John HOwarth, an old time resident of this place passed asway at his home Wednesday, May 25, at 2:45 p.m.
During the last seven weeks he never tasted food, a drink of water two or three times a day was all he wanted.
He received allthe attention a devoted wife, assisted by kind relatives and friends could give through his affliction. A physician was called in early in the winter, but he refused to accept medical aid.
John Howarth was born in Lostock, Lancashire, England, February, 28, 1829. Was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1848. Came to Utah in 1866, locating in this caalley about 40 years ago. He is the father of 18 children and has 18 grandchildren.
His first wife Elizabeth Kay, died in Heber about 30 years ago, 8 children had preceeded her to the other side.
He married Ann Kirkman, October 4, 1875. Was a member of the Black Hawk Veterans.
He has been a hard worker all his life. To say the least that can justly be said of him he was an honest unassuming man, a faithful latter-day Saint. He has been patient in his long sufferings and bore a faithful testimony to the last. He leaves a wife and 10 children, an only sister, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
