Halcyon Willey Jackson, daughter of Charles E. and Ellen Jane Stillman Willey, was born near New London, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1878, one of six children. She passed away at the University hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa on Feb. 3, 1960 at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 6 days.

On Nov. 14, 1895, Halcyon, with her family, moved to a farm near Jamison, Iowa. There she was united in marriage to Jesse O. Jackson on July 6, 1900 and moved shortly thereafter to the Bloomington area, Decatur County, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters and three sons: Anne E., who died in infancy; Homer L. Jackson, Des Moines; Doris Rhodes, Leon; Elmer W. Jackson, Seville,Ohio; Anita Seavers, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Lyle W. Jackson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

May 3, 1903, Halcyon was administered the ordinance of baptism and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to which affiliation she was, to death, conscientiously devoted as her medium to Christ.

Halcyon was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, her father and mother, four brothers, one sister, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.

Throughout her life, she was the devoted companion to her husband Jesse until his death; the ever kind and loving mother to her children; the always consoling counselor to her grandchildren; and a genuine friend to all acquaintances.

Surviving are her three sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

NOTE: There are many instances of her first name being spelled Haleyon in the local newspaper, but Halcyon was her name. An editor's article in the 11/12/1942 issue of the Lamoni Chronicle, "Between You and Me", asked her about her unusual name in which she said that Halcyon is the name of a bird in Greek mythology, which her mother liked because it means tranquility and peace.
