He enlisted during the Civil War in Capt Anderson Whetstone's Company of Reserves. He was over 70 years old at the time. He had previously fought under Gen. Sam Houston at San Jacinto in 1836 and is the only known San Jacinto veteran to be buried in Van Zandt County. He emigrated to the Nacogdoches District about 1816. On a buffalo hunt he passed a point northeast about three miles from what is now Wills Point Here he built a log cabin and returned in later years to build a large house. Here he reared a large family and the community became known as Rocky Point. He lived to be 102 years and six months.
