Dorcas Marie Turner, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 1, 2011.

She was born Nov. 25, 1914, the youngest child of Otis V. Morehead and J. Isaphene Williamson Morehead.

She was a 1932 graduate of Elizabeth (Wirt County) High School, worked at the Viscose Co. during World War II, and along with her husband, operated a general store in Palestine, W.Va.

They spent all their married life on the home place near Palestine where they operated a poultry and livestock farm. She continued to operate the farm until the age of 87, when she went to live with her daughter in Elizabeth, W.Va. She was the oldest member of the New Home (Mayberry) United Methodist Church, joining at the age of 14. She played the piano there for 70 years, taught the youth class and served as church treasurer for many years. She was a member of Wirt County Senior Citizens and played piano for their "Kitchen Band".

She was a Charter member of Palestine Homemakers Club (CEOs) and was chosen to represent Wirt County as the "Belle" to the Folk Festival in Glenville in 1995. She was a 30 year member of Farm Bureau and a 4-H Club leader for nine years.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Epling (Stanley) of South Charleston and Ellen Vlach of Elizabeth; grandchildren Lewis Epling of Nashville, Tenn., Stuart Epling (Nancy) of South Charleston, Suzanne Harris (Charles) of Chattanooga, Tenn., Kim Burrows (Tim) of Rockport, Linda Vlach and Ronnie Vlach of Elizabeth; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelcie Turner in 1971; three brothers Bradie, Homer and Edward Morehead and five sisters Myrtle Givens, Rizzie Lockhart, Laura Lockhart, Ora Taylor and Della Taylor.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth with the Rev. Lee Williams and Rev. Keith Belt officiating. Visitation will be today, from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Mayberry Cemetery.
