Thelma Davis Sutton, 104, of Bryson City, departed her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Wednesday evening, March 10, 2010, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home in Canton. She was a native of Jackson County and lived in the Ela community for more than 65 years. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel Stillwell Davis and the wife of the late Andrew Jackson Sutton. Thelma is also preceded in death by one son, Cooper Lee; one brother, Robert Davis; by a special aunt, Laura Stillwell; and by a son-in-law, Mervin Cloninger.

Thelma was the oldest member of the Ela Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She attended Western Carolina College for three years and Blantons Business College in Knoxville, TN. She taught school in Jackson and Swain counties and Hanes, NC.

She is survived by; a son, Mac Sutton and his wife Judy of Clyde; 3 daughters, Eloine Moores and her husband Paul of Rockledge, FL, Ann Cloninger of Dallas, NC, Jackie Dubay and her husband Chuck of Woodland, WA; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and a sister, Edna Lewis of Sylva.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 3pm at Ela Baptist Church, with Rev. Earl Douthit officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Family Cemetery in Ela. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-3 PM at Ela Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Lee Moores, Mike Cloninger, Chris Thompson, Steve Pressely, Jerry Adams, Adam Thompson, Christopher Thompson and Mondee Monteith.

In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Ela Baptist Church Building Fund or the Sutton Family Cemetery, C/O Mac Sutton, 24 Leaf Lane, Clyde, NC 28721.
